Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Claims First Title in 882 Days

19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid season, achieving just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface after spring of 2023.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won 21 victories at 21 various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my children together, so to get a title is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to doubt if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an improved serving game.

He came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the last five points to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his first tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued four early break points in a tight final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
